The Maynard Public School Health Services Department has prepared this information to keep the school community up to date with the H1N1 Influenza (Swine flu) Virus (Updated 09-15-2009)
Signs and symptoms of the H1N1 flu are similar to those of seasonal flu. Symptoms may include a combination of any of the following:
- fever (usually high)
- cough
- sore throat
- body aches and headaches
- chills
- extreme fatigue
H1N1 flu is contagious. Educating yourselves and taking preventative measures is the best course of action. The following are important steps you can take:
- cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or into your elbow, not with your bare hand
- avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- wash hands frequently, especially after coughing or sneezing
- avoid people who are sick
- stay home or keep your child home if you’re sick, especially with a fever
- please call your healthcare provider if you are concerned about any flu-like symptoms
