H1N1 Influenza (Swine flu) Information

The Maynard Public School Health Services Department has prepared this information to keep the school community up to date with the H1N1 Influenza (Swine flu) Virus (Updated 09-15-2009)

Signs and symptoms of the H1N1 flu are similar to those of seasonal flu. Symptoms may include a combination of any of the following:
  • fever (usually high)
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • body aches and headaches
  • chills
  • extreme fatigue

H1N1 flu is contagious. Educating yourselves and taking preventative measures is the best course of action. The following are important steps you can take:

  • cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or into your elbow, not with your bare hand
  • avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • wash hands frequently, especially after coughing or sneezing
  • avoid people who are sick
  • stay home or keep your child home if you’re sick, especially with a fever
  • please call your healthcare provider if you are concerned about any flu-like symptoms
