School Choice
The Maynard Public Schools are accepting applications from students seeking to participate in the Massachusetts School Choice Program.  The Maynard Public Schools are committed to high academic standards that encourage students, teachers, and community members to achieve their personal best through lifelong learning.

You may download a School Choice Application Form or pick one up at the Office of the Superintendent at 12 Bancroft Street, Maynard, MA  01754.

Completed applications must be returned by May 20, and openings are on a space available basis.  For more information, please contact the Superintendent's Office at (978) 897-2222.

School Closing
It is the policy of the School Department to close or delay the opening of school in cases of extreme weather or travel conditions.  The Superintendent of Schools will make the decision about school closing or delayed opening (standard two-hour delay) after consultation with the Maynard Police Department, the bus company, and the Highway Department.  Every effort will be made to make the decision by 5:00 AM.  School closing will be announced in the following ways:

Radio: WBZ (1030 AM) and WRKO (680 AM)
Television: Channels 4, 5, and 7
Recorded Message: WAVM - 978-897-5179

Town Whistle: The town whistle is no longer used to signal school delays or closings.

Please do not call the fire, police, or school department to inquire about school sessions. DO NOT CALL 911 !

Delayed Opening
In the event of a delayed opening, school will open two (2) hours after the regular starting time. School will be dismissed at the usual time on delayed opening days. If there is a delayed opening, no breakfast will be served on those days.

Occasionally a delayed opening will be later revised to a no school announcement if conditions worsen. Please stay tuned to the TV or radio for a possible cancellation notice after a delayed opening announcement or listen for the town whistle.

Emergency Dismissal
If weather conditions become hazardous while children are in school, or if an emergency arises in the school building, the School Administration may call for an early dismissal. If this should happen, the following steps will be taken:

Administrators at the schools and bus company will be alerted that a dismissal is necessary

  • The Police Department will be alerted of the decision to dismiss early
  • The Fire Department will be called to sound the whistle
  • Crossing guards will be stationed at the usual intersections
  • The broadcasting stations used in school closings will be contacted
  • Fowler and Maynard High School students will be dismissed as soon as possible and before their younger siblings
  • Green Meadow Room parents will start a calling chain to notify parents of the emergency dismissal.
